Overgrown Vegetation and General Junk Accumulation |
|
The Town has a Public Nuisance Ordinance which prohibits the existence of the following conditions: the growth of weeds and/or grass at or over an average height of twelve (12) inches; the accumulation of trash, junk, or rubbish; the accumulation of animal or vegetable matter whose smell is offensive; or any condition that violates the rules and regulations of the County Health Department. When a public nuisance condition exists, the property owner is given notice to take care of the problem. A request that the property be declared a public nuisance is forwarded to the Town Board. If the property owner does not take action after 15 days the Town may use employees or a private contractor to clear the property. The cost for cleanup becomes a lien on the property. Unfortunately, even if the property owner did not place the trash or junk on their property the owner is still responsible for the cleanup. If you witness illegal dumping, please notify the Matthews Police Department. |
