The Process |
All property owners have the right to seek rezoning of their property. Changes in zoning allow for planned growth in accordance with the Matthews Land Use Plan and for development of property that may be marginally suited to its current zoning designation. |
· The petitioner (landowner or a representative) talks with a Planning staff member about filing a rezoning request and obtains application forms. · The petitioner files a request with the Planning Department. Applications are accepted at any time, and are reviewed to verify they are accurate and complete. · The Town Board of Commissioners sets a public hearing date. The public hearing is usually conducted during the first Board of Commissioners meeting (2nd Monday) in the month following submission of the completed petition. · The public hearing is held and the Board of Commissioners refers the petition to the Town Planning Board for review and recommendation. · The Town Planning Board reviews the petition at its first meeting following the public hearing and makes its recommendation to the Board of Commissioners. · The Board of Commissioners makes it decision (usually at their first meeting in the month following the public hearing). |
